My wife and I have been attending Trinity church since 2007 and we love it. The church is our home and the people at Trinity have become our family, even more than our natural family. A few years ago I was challenged by Steve Springsted to memorize Ephesians 4:11-16. While working on committing the text to memory I was convicted of what my own role was to be in the church. According to the text, God appoints various people into various roles in the church, in order to “…equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ.”
God and the church have done so much for me and my family, I wanted to give back in some way. My wife and I prayed about our calling to serve the church, and the opportunity presented itself to lead a small group in middle school ministry. How much more perfect of a situation could God have presented to us to fulfill His call to “…attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the son of God, to mature manhood,” than to shepherd young men and women in middle school?
I have been exceedingly blessed by the young people in Elevate and feel as though I have learned more from them than I have given. I know it sounds like a cliche, but it is absolutely true. Jr high is a critical and very difficult time in a person’s life. I remember how much influence godly mentors meant to me as I fought for survival in middle school. I pray the young men and women in Elevate that I lead, persevere and look back someday and thank God for the leaders that helped them navigate The Middle School years. ~ Brian Cain
